Non-surgical rhinoplasty or non-surgical nose job is one of the 3 types of rhinoplasties that do not involve any incisions or any cuts of any kind all throughout the medical procedure. This type of rhinoplasty is way cheaper and less painful to the patient. Many patients opt to undergo non-surgical rhinoplasty than closed rhinoplasty or open rhinopasty (both surgical rhinoplasties). Since non-surgical rhinoplasty does not involve any incisions, dermal fillers will be used to fill gaps and correct minor abnormalities to the nose’s physical appearance. Not all patients who wish to undergo rhinoplasty or nose job are candidates for non-surgical rhinoplasty.
Dermal Fillers for Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
There are several different types with different compositions and effects of dermal fillers that can be used during non-surgical rhinoplasty. It will be done together with the doctor and patient as to which type of dermal filler will be used and which specific type of dermal filler can work best according to the patient’s present condition. Here are some of the most commonly used dermal fillers in non-surgical rhinoplasty:
Artefill Dermal Filler for Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Artefill dermal filler is made of polumethylmethacrylate microspheres (PMMA) suspended in a gel made of bovine collagen. The material PMMA has been long used in various surgical implants. PMMA microspheres can help in stimulating the body to produce more collagen, which can help in filling up depressions in the skin. Artefill dermal fillers are injected to several regions of the nose during non-surgical rhinoplasty procedure. Prior to injecting the filler, a numbing cream or topical anesthetic will be applied to the skin of the nose to minimize pain and discomfort during the procedure. The procedure will only take about 15 minutes, and after which, the patient can return to his or her usual activities of daily living immediately.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Artefill Dermal Filler
Artefill dermal filler is the only FDA approved permanent filler. Unlike other dermal fillers that can only cause temporary effects (approximately 6 to 12 months), the effects of artefill are longer lasting (5 years) or even permanent. However, for those patients who have not tried undergoing non-surgical rhinoplasty before, they should try to consider using other dermal fillers with temporary results before committing to artefill, a permanent dermal filler. Doing so can provide patients a chance to fully decide if they like the results brought by non-surgical rhinoplasty before everything is too late if patients use artefill, a permanent dermal filler.
